thrum
0.4.1the end drives, amethyst rings

a geode fell somewhere it should not have, and a crater grew a ring of end stone rubble and chorus sprouts around it, one core sitting whole at its heart. that same core turns up in ordinary geodes too, about a third of the time, so the everyday find is underground and the eldritch one is a landmark you stumble on. drop an anvil on a core and it cracks into a handful of shards, and a shard is the only key this mod has: no shard, no thrum, and every shard on the server came out of a crater somebody found.
a shard goes in a copper harness and the harness rings, forever — the end does not run down. amethyst is the wire: any amethyst block touching a ringing block rings too, out to twenty-four blocks, and the ring is recomputed only when the stone itself changes, never on a tick. a room wired in amethyst glows and chimes, and that is the whole meter. run more than a harness can carry and the ring goes flat: the chime drops in pitch, the motes slow, every consumer on it runs slower together, and the only fix is another crater.
the first two things worth drawing the pull are both about pulling: a draw block that reaches out eight blocks for dropped items, and a pair of step pads that bind to each other and move you between them on a crouch, the pearl you did not throw. nothing here is a battery or a bar — it is a stone that hums when the end is listening, and a player who never finds a crater meets nothing of this mod but a strange chime once in a while.
thrum ships its own small api so graft and jib can draw the ring without a hard dependency: ask if a position is ringing, read the strain as a number, register a load for the tick. the family's whole thesis lives in that seam — one source, and every hand above it reads the same pull.
the loop, whole
| gesture | you get |
|---|---|
| find a core: a cracked crater, or a third of ordinary geodes | the crater is the gate; nothing thrum-powered exists before this |
| anvil the core | 4 to 6 shards, and the core is gone |
| shard in a copper harness | the harness rings, forever |
| amethyst touching a ringing block | the ring extends, up to 24 blocks, glowing and chiming |
| more consumers than the harness carries | the ring goes flat: slower work, a lower chime, until you add capacity |
