the shadow falls true: west at dawn, east at evening, tracking the sun's real position rather than a number pulled from world time and drawn on. nothing about it is ever saved — the shadow is recomputed every frame from sky access, time and weather, which is why it goes honest and vague in overcast and mute at night.
with seasons home, the breathing day shows up on the stone: the hour marks are the same, but the light reaches them earlier or later as the year turns.
