the delve

no items, no blocks, no server state at all: the delve is a client-side reading of the cave that is already there. the air drifts toward openings, so a draft followed patiently is a way home. water is heard through stone before it is seen. the hush of a deep place has your own footsteps coming back at you, timed by the size of the chamber you are standing in.

it knows when to stop: it stands down entirely in the deep dark and underwater, where the silence belongs to something else. since 1.1.0 the seams show — flames lean with the draft, a waypost candle included, breath streams downwind of it, and the whole field hands off to wind at the cave mouth.
