leviathan
0.2.3the deep places of the sea, and the great lives that keep them

inside the deep oceans there are places where the floor falls away โ trenches marked by the world's own seed, shelving down forty-odd blocks past the vanilla bed to floors of gravel and basalt, magma vents where it is deepest, water the light never reaches the bottom of. no new biome asked for, no library dragged in: the deeps are carved into the oceans that already exist, and their walls meet seamlessly at every chunk border because the noise that made them is a pure function of the seed.
two whales keep them. orca pods travel every ocean, two to four together โ black and white, the tall fin cutting the swell. a family, not a formation: they keep loosely together, hunt cod and salmon the honest way, surface to blow, and regard swimmers and boats with unhurried curiosity. they come to look; they do not touch.
and below, rarest thing in the sea, the leviathan โ a whale of impossible size wearing a constellation of soul-teal lights down each flank, wanting nothing from you: not your death, not your company. it sings, a long call that carries for seas; it surfaces on its own slow clock to blow; approach and it veers away and down. hurt it and it simply leaves, faster than you can follow, its lights going out into the dark. it cannot be farmed, tamed, or led, and it drops nothing โ most players will hear one long before they see one, and that is the design working.
deeper still, the third giant: the giant squid, rose-red architeuthis in the darkest columns, drifting more than it swims, moving by the jet โ one long contraction, then the glide. come inside arm's reach, or wound it, and it answers the only way its kind ever has: the water goes black, the mantle fires, and there is empty sea where a giant was. the ink is the encounter.
and the deep is furnished now. where a basin runs deepest, sometimes: hydrothermal vent fields โ basalt chimneys with magma hearts, sea-pickle gardens glowing around them, the only light down there. and rarely, in a true trench heart, a whale fall: the bone ribcage of a leviathan that came to rest, the small lives already gathered on it. nothing is explained, nothing is signposted.
nothing in this mod is an antagonist and nothing is a resource. awe and company, never a number โ the sea being alive around you, and the sea being bigger than you, kept.
